The Bird Park

Mr Corky..... This little bird was a right little poser and gave us many of his better sides to be photographed..... that was until the bigger birds wanted some attention and promptly moved the little fella on.

Arrrrrrr and ten pieces of eight......

The many Toucans are very tame and friendly and allowed you to get very close to them. Their beaks can be over half the size of their body. Although big, the beak is extremely light and these birds are actually bottom heavy, and not very elegant fliers!

Itapu Damn

The Itapu Damn is the biggest hydro electricity power station in the world and supplys 90% of all Paraguays electricity and 30% of Brazils.

The company who run the power station have come under fire and are subsequnetly very concerned about their image. They flooded this valley to create a 170sq km resevoir and go to great lengths on the FREE tour to stress that as both being an environmentally and morally conscious company, they saved up to 900 different species of rare birds, plants and animals before they dynamited the overflow resevoir to create this one. They also claim to pay out each year to the 1000s of indigenous people they had to relocate.
