Tiwanaku
Sometimes referred to as the “American Stonehenge”, Tiwanaku is recognized as one of 754 World Heritage Sites. The walls and temples are built with precisely cut stone blocks, one of which weighs over 130 tons. Archaeologists are still trying to understand how, exactly, many of the stones were transported from quarries up to 100 km away.
